AT&T announces its first Android smartphone – Motorola Backflip
AT&T, Google

Come March 7 and AT&T will join the league of the Google Android-based smartphone carriers – with the launch of the new Motorola Backflip, which was showcased at the CES in January!

The Backflip, which will be the first Android smartphone on AT&T, boasts a distinguishing ‘flip’ design which allows the handset’s screen to completely flip up – over the phone’s QWERTY keyboard.

Featuring a 3.1 inch high-resolution screen; a 5-megapixel camera, and access to over 20,000 applications; the Backflip is equipped with Motorola’s much-hyped MOTOBLUR technology which facilitates the search of lost devices from a secure personal information portal and GPS.

As per AT&T, the Motorola Backflip, which will run AT&T’s 3G network, also features the ability to use Wi-Fi; and flaunts a pioneer BACKTRACK feature that can streamline the navigation and Internet browsing experience of the users.

To be available at $199 with a two-year contract, but with a $100 mail-in rebate, the Backflip also allows users to sync contacts, photos, messages, and other information from a number of outlets, including Facebook and Twitter.

Talking about the Backflip, Mark Shockley, Senior VP of Motorola Mobile Devices, said in a press release: “Motorola is proud to bring the first Android-powered device to AT&T's 3G network. AT&T customers will love the social media advantages MOTOBLUR offers as well as the innovative hardware design.”
