Tiger Woods’s first bid to improve his tarnished image shredded by reports of marital infidelity is likely to fly off course with fans because of its limited nature, crisis public-relations experts said.
According to Mark Steinberg, his agent, Woods, 34, is reported to extend an official apologize for his behavior and address his past and his future plans at 11 a. m. today local time at a press conference in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
“He undermines his own credibility”, said Howard J. Rubenstein, whose namesake New York public relations company has represented News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. “He can’t look like he’s ducking by failing to answer questions”.
Mike Paul, President of New York- based MGP & Associates PR quoted that Woods had rendered himself “behind the eight-ball” by hiding himself and won’t be able to grab his original image if he doesn’t seem fully forthcoming.
Sitrick, who is advising Toyota Motor Corp.’s southern California dealers on public relations strategies following the automaker’s recalls, revealed that he would have tried to “humanize” Woods by having him sit for an interview.
Woods may also replace lost endorsements by expanding his involvement in golf-course design, revealed Steve Adelson, a partner in Discovery Land Co., the Scottsdale, Arizona-based developer of private golf communities.
