Tele2 Fires its CEO

Due to some clashing differences over leadership, Tele2, which is Sweden’s second largest telecom company, has fired its CEO, Harri Koponen.

“We had the view that his leadership was not the kind of leadership that we thought the company needed long term”, said Chairman, Vigo Carlund.

Refusing to share any other information, he said that the company is running in a healthy way, otherwise.

As proclaimed by the company officials, Chief Financial Officer, Lars Nilsson will be serving as the interim CEO.

"The strategic direction of Tele2 is unchanged. Lars Nilsson and the Executive Board have the full support of the Board of Directors to continue its successful execution", said Vigo Carlund, Tele2’s Chairman.

After serving as the Deputy CEO of TeliasonerAB, Koponen joined Tele2 in 2008.

In his term as the CEO, he led the expansion of the company in Russia, giving way to its operators who are running successfully in 37 regions, at present.

“I was surprised because I hadn’t heard there were any problems in the management team”, said Stefan Billing, an Analyst for Stockholm’s HQ Bank.

Carlund has announced that Koponen will receive his 18 month's separation pay and he has left the company on good terms.
