Obesity among adults has once again caught researchers' attention as it continuing to rise. There will be a 98 per cent rise in type-2 diabetes by 2050 and heart disease and cancer would be on a rise by 2020 due to obesity.
An analysis was conducted for forecasting obesity levels up to 2020 in adults based on recent data, which was led by Klim McPherson, Oxford University professor.
According to the findings a substantial increase was seen in cardiovascular diseases, particularly coronary heart disease (CHD).
Researchers stated that a 23 per cent rise in the prevalence of obesity-related stroke, obesity-related hypertension to go up by 34 per cent, a 44 per cent rise in obesity-related coronary heart disease and 98 per cent rise in type-2 diabetes, was predicted in the years to come.
Diabetes UK Care Adviser Cathy Moulton said, "This new report paints a gloomy picture of the future. Type-2 diabetes accounts for 90 per cent of all cases of diabetes and obesity is one of its leading causes."
There was a need to reverse this trend to ensure a healthier generation and this would be possible only with physical activity and a healthy diet.
