As was confirmed by both the parties involved on Friday, Germany's E. ON Ruhrgas, which is one of Europe's biggest and top-ranked gas buyers from Russia, has officially completed talks on more flexible and easy gas purchasing contracts with Gazprom, the state export company.
"Parts of the purchase (from Gazprom) will in future no longer be coupled to the oil price but to the spot gas price", an E. ON spokesman said.
As the oil-gas link has continued to be a general and standard practice in Europe's pipeline gas markets for many decades now, its easing and making it more flexible could end up shaking the supplier-customer relationships, and also encourage a more competitive trading environment to the benefit of the consumers.
CEO of Ruhrgas Bernhard Reutersberg, recently confirmed to the media that the month long discussion has successfully ended.
"We will still have to work on some details but the basic framework has been established and Gazprom chief (Alexei) Miller and I are in agreement", he shared.
