Apple has boosted the size of application downloads over a 3G connection to 20MB from 10MB.
In the past, if you wanted to download larger applications, you had to use Wi-Fi.
This limitation was placed on the iPhone at the request of wireless carriers in an attempt to preserve bandwidth.
Apple raised the 10 MB capacity, which seems a more reasonable figure for video and podcast downloads when out of Wi-Fi range. However, if you try to download files over 20MB, a message will ask you to switch to Wi-Fi.
Despite difficulties with the AT&T network, Apple decided to strike a deal for 3G connectivity with the carrier again, this time for the 3G-enabled iPads coming this spring.
In addition, Sling Player 3G streaming has also been enabled on the iPhone this week, after AT&T tried to hold back this feature because of stress of increased traffic.
AT&T is now under pressure to keep up with Apple's traffic-demanding products since the carrier's exclusive deal with the iPhone in the U. S. is soon coming to an end.
