For people who have shift base to another state or those who like to go for long drives but have the fear of getting lost, Apple introduces a new application. At $130, it turns the iPhone 3G and 3GS or the second-generation iPod Touch into a navigation system when paired with any iPhone GPS navigation application. Magellan's RoadMate iPhone application provides 3D mapping technology and turn-by-turn directions when you dock it with the car kit. It also shows important landmarks like restaurants or repair shops along the way.

The iPhone fits nicely in the cradle, with or without its protective case and it stays in place even after lots of sudden slams on the brakes.

After typing in the address of your destination on your iPhone's touchscreen, the RoadMate application will map out your journey by distance and also give an estimated time of arrival.

According to a Magellan spokesman, the car kit's GPS receiver functions best when it has a clear line of sight of the sky. The signal gets weak under bridges or when it's blocked by tall buildings.

Furthermore, the car kit's power adapter keeps the iPhone charged.
