It has been reported that a second patient has also died due to a rare bug in ward 4 at the Liberton Hospital. The death of this 82 - year - old man actually follows the death of a woman who was 86 - years - old. It was an interesting fact that both patients had contracted the infection at just about the same time. Both deaths had happened right after they developed an infection due to the bacterium Group A streptococci. The infection controls that were enforced in the ward still remained and new patients were not admitted into the ward.
It was reported that this bacterium is generally just found living on the nose, throat or even skin but it is usually just harmless. The man was initially administered antibiotics after developing the infection but there did not seem to be any effect as the complications worsened.
It was also reported that two other patients too had shown symptoms of the infection but they were said to be responding well to the antibiotic treatment and that the hospital was doing all it can to help the patients, the visitors and also the staff.
