A research led by Dr. Brian Williams of the Centre for Epidemiological Modeling and Analysis, claims that the Anti-retroviral Treatments can curb the spread of AIDS in the body of the patients, within five years. The treatment costs around $2-3bn per year.

The drug essentially works by reducing the amount of virus in the body fluids.

"We have 30 million people infected with HIV and two million people dying each year. The tragedy is that the disease continues unabated," said Dr. Williams.

As per the estimations made by W. H. O. in 2008, more than 33m people are living with HIV, all over the world.

Dr. Williams and his team advocated and promoted the use of Anti-retroviral Drug, proposing that all those above the age of 15 should undergo a test for HIV, annually.

Highlighting the other side of the drugs, Dennis Burton from the Scripps Research Institute, said, "It's important to realize that the HIV vaccine problem is not one of development. There are still many discovery steps that need to be made."
