The subject matter of last Sunday's episode of "Family Guy" was barely shocking. Chris Griffin, the discomfited teenager goes on a date with Ellen, a girl with Down syndrome.
"So what do your parents do?" he innocently asks.
"My dad's an accountant, and my mom is the former Governor of Alaska", the girl replies.
That one-line stab at Sarah Palin's special needs son, Trig, has resulted in the war between Palin and Seth MacFarlane, who is the cartoon's mocking creator. Now, the conflict between the two is being continued on TV, with a little-known actress trapped in the middle.
"The world is full of cruel, cold-hearted people who would do such a thing. When is enough? And when are we going to be willing to say, you know, some things just aren't really funny", said Palin in an appearance on Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor."
MacFarlane blazed his own bombardment in HBO's episode "Real Time with Bill Maher" on Friday that Palin's complaints was an attempt to obtain phony pity.
Friedman said that the episode wasn't written to jab fun at Palin's son.
"Sarah Palin didn't even get the joke. It would be nice if she did have a sense of humor. Come on Sarah, laugh a little", said Friedman to ABC News.
Some Down syndrome advocates have praised the cartoon for presenting a well-rounded character dealing with the disability.
