In what can be termed as Sony’s response to the interchangeable-lens Micro Four-Thirds cameras from Olympus and Panasonic, the company recently unveiled the concept model of its new, thus-far-unnamed alpha DSLR camera at the PMA show.
Going by the non-working prototype of the Sony camera, the device features an ultra-compact DSLR with interchangeable lenses – which marks the progression of the a700, TX5, and H55 Cyber-shot cameras – and an Exmor APS HD CMOS censor for providing full AVCHD video boasting high-quality 1080p recording.
As per Sony, the 24-mm by 16-mm APS-C image sensor of the new camera, which will likely hit the markets later this year, will produce better-quality images than Micro Four-Thirds cameras – a make-up of sorts for the fact that Sony’s foray into the small-body interchangeable-les cameras’ arena is somewhat late vis-à-vis its competitors.
Along with the concept model of the new camera, Sony also showcased some new printers and other accessories at the PMA show – notable among these being a prototype Super Telphoto 500mm F4 G lens; and a prototype Distagon T 24mm F2 ZA SSM with a Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens.
In addition, Sony also displayed the PictureStation retail instant photo kiosk, which is a new retail photofinishing system. Meanwhile, to cater to the needs of the professionals, Sony unveiled the UP-DR80 - a dye-sub printer.
