A recent study states that an oat extract can do wonders to your brain by boosting its power.
University of South Australia (USA) Nutritional Physiology Research Centre researchers are delving upon if oat can actually help in improving mental health.
Peter Howe, USA research professor, oats was garnering interest from various researchers about how it could benefit mental health in older adults. Oats is otherwise known to improve physical health.
Howe said, "With the proportion of ageing population set to increase over the next several decades, mental disability through age-related cognitive decline looms as a major public health problem with enormous economic and social impact."
Howe added that efforts were on to find out how an extract of wild green oats can enhance cognitive performance in older adults.
Janet Bryan from USA School of Psychology who has worked extensively in the field of cognitive ageing and nutrition and is lead study researcher said, "Oats and oat extracts have long been recognised for their health properties. Green oat preparations have been used to combat fatigue, irritable mood and poor concentration for hundreds of years.”
Bryan said that wild green oats is believed to have nutrients that are bioactive that might enhance blood flow to brain that further improves concentration and attention.
