According to a document received by the U. S. Congressional Committee titled as 'Wins for Toyota' that analyzed the automaker, Toyota Motor Corp. has saved $100m through a recall of its cars.
Toyota's Chief Executive, Akio Toyoda will be representing the company in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Government which will be holding hearings in the next two weeks on Toyota's safety problems.
So far, Toyota has recalled more than 8m vehicles.
Including repairs and decline in sales, the recalls would cost the company $2bn.
In the document, Toyota shared that it had negotiated an equipment recall.
The company further quoted, "Our first priority is the safety of our customers, and to conclude otherwise on the basis of one internal presentation is wrong", in the document.
But Kurt Bardella, a Spokesman for Representative Darrell Issa of California, the oversight committee's senior Republican member, said the document raised questions. "Did regulators do their due diligence once problems were brought to their attention? Did Toyota raise potential safety problems with regulators as soon as they knew a problem existed?", he asked.
"Unfortunately, this document is very telling. We're going to hold Toyota's feet to the fire and make sure they do what's necessary", said Olivia Alair, a Spokeswoman for the Transportation Department.
