IVF children Might be At Risk of Infertility Themselves, Scientists Say

Yesterday, scientists stressed that a whole generation of children born with the help of fertility treatments might just be at risk of facing infertility themselves. A large number of these children are likely to inherit the problems that made their parents unable to have a child naturally.

Experts are now insisting that couples opting for these fertility treatments should be made more aware of the consequences for their children during their visits to the IVF clinics.

"There are genetic codes for infertility which you can bypass now. It may be the next generation may be infertile. This is something all clinics should mention to patients if there is a genetic origin of infertility", said Andre Van Steirteghem in a meeting in San Diego.

Mr. Van Steirteghem is currently busy monitoring the health of 15,000 children born through fertility treatments.
