Twitter is planning to launch an official advertising platform, shared Anamitra Banerji, Twitter head of product management at Interactive Advertising Bureau event on Tuesday.
"The platform is only in the test phase. It will be explicitly clear that a sponsor paid for the ad and it will be relevant and useful, so the user doesn't think of it as an ad", said Anamitra Banerji.
The company said that it is as popular as Facebook and it receive and distribute about 600 Tweets every second. Advertising revenue could be very high if properly maintained. Twitter will hold its first official developer conference, called "Chirp", a month later.
Twitter has not revealed a tangible revenue strategy ahead of search deals with the likes of Google and Microsoft. The company has veiled that long-term revenues might come from a "dashboard" of analytics for businesses. Dashboard was originally supposed to be launched before the end of 2009.
Twitter's executives hesitated to reveal whether they wanted to institute an advertising strategy.
