Web site operators in China will be required to submit personal photos to register their web sites under the Government’s new regulations.

The regulations were planned by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to create records of all sites in the country and campaign against online porn in which China has closed thousands of Web sites and registration of new Internet domain names by users.

The regulations, dated February 8, have been published on sites of the Chinese telecom regulator on Monday, require internet providers to help people register new Web sites and collect photographs of them and provide information of the site's content. The new regulations are required to be applied by late March. The internet providers whosoever delay or submit false materials from applicants will be punished.

According to the official Xinhua news agency, around 130,000 websites have been closed as these websites do not reveal any records with the government.

"Currently, online information security faces severe challenges and guaranteeing security is our first responsibility”, said Li, the Head of China's IT Ministry.
