The treatment of the premier of Newfoundland for repairing a heart valve in United States has offended the doctors of Canada as they say that there was no need of going out for the treatment that is available in four Canadian centers including the hospitals in Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.

Montreal Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Hugues Jeanmart expressed his surprise by saying, "I was very surprised, especially for the reason Williams advanced, saying that we didn't have this kind of expertise in Canada, which I completely disagree with”.

Talking about the surgery involving robotic technology, Jeanmart said, "There's less pain, less bleeding, less chance of infection and the main point is faster recovery after these kinds of surgery”.

This procedure, although not frequently recommended to the patients because of risk of stroke, is still available. There are also risks, such as stroke, so some cardiac specialists are reluctant to recommend the procedure. But the procedure is still available in Montreal.

However, opposing the allegations of not believing in his own organization Willams said, “This is my heart, it's my health and it's my choice. I had to leave the province because; it's not a typical open heart surgery where your arteries are replaced. So, they recommended me to get it treated at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami where the procedure is minimally invasive”.
