On Tuesday, Politicians and Internet activists in Italy condemned a page on the social networking site, Facebook that proposed children with Down Syndrome to be used for target practice.
Italy's Equality Minister Mara Carfagna, has promised legal action against those responsible for the page.
Meanwhile, Police is trying to hunt down who set up the page that features a photo of a Down Syndrome baby with the word "idiot" superimposed on it.
If caught, they could face up to 4.5 years imprisonment for incitement to committing a crime, the Minister said.
The page suggested using them as targets at shooting centers since it was "an easy and amusing solution" to get rid of "these foul creatures".
"People's ignorance has no limits", Manuela Colombo, the President of a Support Group for families with Down Syndrome children told ANSA news agency.
Statistics by the Italian Down Syndrome Association reveal that one baby in 1,200 is born with Down Syndrome in Italy and there are 38,000 living with the condition while 61% are older than 25 years.
According to some experts, it might take some time for the site to shut down since Facebook is based in Palo Alto, California, and the procedure might involve a lengthy legal process.
