The title of "best green car" vehicle according to Consumer Reports Magazine is maintained for the seventh consecutive time by Toyota Motor's Prius. This honor came to the automaker two weeks after it recalled 437,000 hybrids for repairing brake software defect.

CR on Tuesday reported that Toyota's $76,572 Lexus LS460L was crowned for best overall vehicle among more than 280 autos tested for the list of best vehicle by product category. This listing is expected to help Toyota, as it is considered mainly by the car-buyers.

General Motors' Chevrolet Traverse was termed as best sport-utility vehicle and Chevy Silverado as top pickup by the Consumer Report. Mazda5, Subaru Forester, Volkswagen GTI and Hyundai Elantra SE were also called as best vehicles.

According to David Champion, Deputy Technical Director at CR's auto test center, Toyota's Highlander and RAV4 SUVs declined from the list as company ceased sales because of recalling currently but once the sales are restarted, the magazine will reconsider the decision.

Top small SUV title was given to the Subaru Forester and the $16,000 Honda Fit along with Toyota Prius were crowned as Consumer Reports' best value car.
