An announcement has yet to come from the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft with regards to a possible appeal against the Federal Court decision in the much talked about and landmark copyright case that it has been fighting against iiNet.

Thursday, February 25, is the deadline for the appeal, which is the same day that the two sides will once again meet in court for a directions hearing over the court costs.

"All I can tell you is that the deadline for filing an appeal is Thursday", an AFACT spokesperson said.

After a probe which went on for 5 long months, Justice Cowdroy went ahead to completely dismiss the case which was brought by AFACT against iiNet. The investigation went on to uncover all the instances of copyrights infringement by users of services offered by iiNet.

Despite discovering the infringements, Justice Cowdory discovered that the ISP did not authorize the actions undertaken by its customers.

Minister Stephen Conroy has now called for ISPs and the content industry to work out a solution to the problem of copyrighted content illegally being downloaded over the internet.
