Rep. Mary Grant, D-Beverly participated in an event at the State House in early February with a view to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign.
The night was a chance to bring awareness to heart disease. "Our goal truly is to prevent people from suffering from heart disease. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death that can be prevented", said Jodi Brown, a registered nurse at Portneuf Medical Center.
The campaign is initiated with an aim to raise awareness among women about heart disease. In her press release about the event, Grant posted that heart disease engulfs more women than the next five leading causes of death combined — including all forms of cancer.
In addition, the direct and indirect cost of cardiovascular diseases in the United States, including stroke, is reported to average at $475.3 billion every year.
The Go Red For Women State House proclamation is revealed as part of the series of events to kick off American Heart Month. The event featured remarks by legislators, AHA volunteer Dr. Roberta Herman and heart patient/survivor Marylou Depeiza.
