The city council members of Mountain View have proposed to ban its medical marijuana dispensaries.
"There is an interest in making this available medical marijuana for those that need it, absolutely. We just want to make it safe and affordable", said Laura Macias, Council Member.
The council cast its 4-2 vote to put forth a regulation that will ban the marijuana dispensaries.
There has been an increase in the probability of establishment of more such dispensaries after the Federal Authorities' announcement of stopping examination in states where medical marijuana is legal. To put this down, Mountain View officials have decided to take the proposal to other local cities including Los Altos, San Carlos and Redwood City, as well.
The officials proposed an ‘interim urgency ordinance’, intending to ban the dispensaries temporarily. However, they failed due to lack of votes. The ordinance will take time to get implemented totally.
"We're looking at maybe a year, maximum, but the intent is that we want to see where a medical marijuana dispensary could potentially work in Mountain View”, said Council Member Margaret Abe-Koga.
“We're dealing with sick people here who are suffering. Our chapter, we're not going to go away. The more you drag this on, the more we have to come out here and take up your time and ours", added Lauren Vazquez, Director of the Silicon Valley.
