Got Lactose Intolerance? Experts Still Doubtful

A fact was unveiled at a national conference on Wednesday that Americans who have lactose intolerance might be ruining their health. It's an aversion to dairy products like milk, cheese or yogurt as they are unable to digest the same.

Dr. Frederick Suchy of the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, is of the view that a research is yet to be conducted on the same.

The only reason of getting worried is the fact that such people are unable to consume enough calcium and vitamin D that keeps the bones strong, lessens high blood pressure and may prove helpful in preventing cancer.

People with lactose intolerance have a variety of products to choose from. These help them to consume milk without any kind of after-effects like bloating, cramps, and diarrhea.

Suchy said, "Although dairy foods are an excellent source of calcium, vitamin D, protein, magnesium, potassium, riboflavin, and other nutrients, these individual nutrients are available in other foods, fortified foods, and supplements".

Almost all the babies born produce a good quantity of the enzyme lactase in the small intestine to digest Lactose. But throughout the world, the lactase levels of the people are diminishing throughout childhood.
