Vitamin B May Treat Stroke

It was discovered by the Doctors at the Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit, that vitamin B3, or niacin acts as a panacea in restoring a brain's neurological function after a heart stroke.

In a recent research rats were given niacin, consequently their brains showed development of new blood vessels which brought improvement in their neurological system. They also sprouted nerve cells which is not less than a miracle. Similar trial on humans will also be conducted.

This could really result in the evolution of a new treatment which is comparatively less costly. It rewires the brain when it is damaged by a stroke which involves either bleeding or blood clot which is sometimes fatal. About 150,000 people die like this every year.

Dr Michael Chopp, Scientific Director of the Henry Ford Neuroscience Institute said, "If this proves to also work well in our human trials, we'll then have the benefit of a low-cost, easily-tolerable treatment for one of the most neurologically devastating conditions".

This may also open doors in other areas of neurological medicine, to the extent of curing a brain injury.
