New tourist trail links Queensland's coast with the Outback

Munich  - A new tour route connecting the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian Outback has been inaugurated in the state of Queensland.

The trail stretches more than 2,000 kilometres and takes between four and 11 days to complete depending on the mode of transport and your itinerary, according to the Queensland tourist office in Munich.

The Reef to Outback trail begins at Rockhampton on the Pacific coast and goes to the gemstone town of Emerald in the Outback.

It then returns to the coast passing through the towns of Longreach and Winston as well as several national parks where the journey ends in Bundaberg.

The trip also gives tourists an opportunity to acquaint themselves with work on a real Australian farm. (dpa)
