Your back pain can be eased by ‘talking therapy’, which is a cheap and effective way to alleviate low back pain, according to a UK trial. Hundreds of adults who were suffering with constant back pain were the part of the study. Those who were given a short-course of talking therapy were benefited. Earlier all had been given a general advice about avoiding bed rest, keeping active and taking painkillers.
The positive effect was still seen a year after, of the nine hours of discussion and an advice which significantly eased both pain and stiffness and improved quality of life, reported the Lancet.
It’s better than physiotherapy or acupuncture. It’s an easy way of helping the millions of Britons whose backs cause them daily pain. The treatment was done in groups which allowed the volunteers to meet others with the same problem, as well as cutting costs.
“Effective treatments that result in sustained improvements in low-back pain are elusive. This trial shows that a bespoke cognitive behavioral intervention package is effective in managing sub acute and chronic low-back pain”, said Researcher Professor Sarah Lamb.
