Apple's decision to remove all sexually suggestive applications and content for the iPhone and iPod Touch from the iTunes App Store, the official source of programs for the devices, might just end up hurting the company and its products. It is no secret that applications like Wobble iBoobs and Private Dancer were huge money for the developers and highly popular among users. The decision to not offer these and similar content anymore could bring down the sales and revenue substantially.
In a recent interview, Apple Executive Phil Schiller had shared, "It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see".
In this light, the decision seems sensible, but there seems to be some favoritism at play here. While Apple did bid goodbye to some applications, it preferred to stick with some others likes those of Playboy Enterprises Inc. and Time Warner Inc., which offers an app built around Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue. Also, users can still upgrade the Swimsuit app to get "Soccer Stars’ Wives & Girlfriends in Bodypaint”.
