Senator Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee's antitrust panel on Friday, criticized NBC’s online access to the Olympics.
Kohl seems to restrict NBC’s online access to people who subscribe to a pay TV service or have a provider partnership with NBC. Kohl said that the policy unlawfully inhibits others from seeing Olympic events.
NBC said that it is broadcasting around 12 hours a day of programming that anybody with a TV can watch, even though they do not have cable. The network is screening highlights and medal-winning performances online for free. But, only other events like full-length hockey games cannot be watched free online.
NBC’s criticism take places after congressional Democrats dared executives from Comcast and NBC Universal at hearings previously this month to explain that the cable TV operator’s decision to acquire Entertainment Company would not hurt customers.
NBC revealed that it is now broadcasting 190 hours of the Olympics to everybody and online coverage has been made available on cable and online.
