Students Should be Counted in Census, Officials Demand
U. S. Census officials

With almost 50,000 college students residing in Baton Rouge, U. S. Census officials are calling for their inclusion, to make sure that the census results obtained are as accurate as possible.

The 2010 US Census will be the first time that many of the college students will be completing their own census forms. As far as the census data goes, it is about where people currently reside, not where they originally from.

The census has now demanded that college students should be counted in the city where they live in for major part of the year, or where they attend college.

It does not matter if they live on campus or not.

It is extremely important for the U. S. Census to account for students at LSU and all local colleges. It plays a role in reapportionment, which ensures fair representation in Congress and the Legislature…. And it helps state, local and federal officials understand the true extent of the quantity and quality of local public services", said LSU Chancellor Michael Martin.
