A new study reveals that talking therapy can provide relief from back pain. Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a talking therapy used for long-term relief from pain.
In UK, around 85% of people suffer with back pain and nearly 5 million people consult their GP for back pain every year. Remedies like painkillers and spinal manipulation can cure back pain for shorter period.
“Effective treatments that result in sustained improvements in low-back pain are elusive. This trial show, that a bespoke cognitive behavior intervention package is effective in managing sub acute and chronic low-back pain in primary care”, said Professor Sarah Lamb, of the University of Warwick.
Researchers conducted a study in which they used feedback form to know people's pain. The study had 701 individuals from England, suffering from low back pain. Out of which, 468 were given six classes of CBT in a group, and 233 were not given treatment. Participants completed their classes of CBT in just three months.
The study found that the participants receiving CBT had recovered from back pain than those who were not given the therapy, published by the Lancet Journal.
