Lend a Helping Hand in Fighting Breast Cancer When Filing Your Taxes

Although, it cannot be denied that filing taxes can be hurting, yet by checking line 1 of the voluntary contributions schedule on your tax form, one can donate to Amanda's Fund for Breast Cancer Treatment and Prevention and lend a helping hand to women get treatment to combat breast cancer.

"One hundred percent of your donations to Amanda's fund will go directly to the (Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program) BCCCP, which will provide breast cancer screening, follow-up care, and cancer treatment to an expanded number of low-income women served through the program", Janet Olszewski, Michigan Department of Community Health director, said in a press release.

The 2008 Michigan Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey discovered that women with less household incomes were less susceptible to receive required breast cancer screenings.

Cancer is more treatable the earlier it is detected. As per the current funding, the BCCCP was able to screen 27,000 women only.

For the present year, it is important that the fund raises $100,000 from the tax check-off option or otherwise it won't be available on next year's form.

Legislation for Amanda's fund was introduced by Sen. Patty Birkhoz, R-Saugatuck Township. It was named for her friend, Amanda Price, who has survived three battles with breast cancer, according to the press release.
