Three new expansions coming to Final Fantasy XI this year

In a recent announcement at its fan gathering Vana Fest 2010, Square Enix has revealed that three new Final Fantasy XI expansions - Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea, are scheduled for its popular Final Fantasy XI game this year; each costing $10. The first-to-be-released expansion, Vision of Abyssea, will hit the stores this summer.

Square Enix also specified that the release of all the three expansions, which come in the eighth year of existence of FFXI, will be simultaneous in all the markets worldwide, and all the three FFXI platforms - PC, Xbox 360, and PS2.

However, the new add-ons will be accessible by only those players who have purchased the two earlier-released expansion packs - namely, Rise of the Zilart and Wings of the Goddess.

The three new FFXI add-ons, which will comprise a "battle-oriented" series of updates, substantiate the phenomenal success of the FFXI game, which has been encouraging developers to continue developing new content.

Meanwhile, along with the announcement of the three new FFXI expansions, Square Enix - which has selected some dedicated FFXI gamers for participation in a closed alpha test of Final Fantasy XIV - also revealed that some other changes were also on the cards - like, the raising the level cap to 99; several job adjustments; Odin and Alexander as new summons; and the finale of the Wings of the Goddess storyline.
