No Confirmations From Microsoft About Windows Mobile not Being Upgradable

Microsoft has outright declined to confirm reports which have speculated that smartphones running on the Windows Mobile 6. x platform will not be upgradable to the latest Windows Phone 7 Series. The latest operating system for mobile phones was recently announced by Microsoft.

Microsoft has reportedly made a point of enforcing very strict hardware requirements for handsets that run the Mobile 7 OS, which a Microsoft executive has apparently suggested would end up preventing even newer devices like the HTX HD2 from running the new OS.

Previously, Microsoft had refused to confirm if Windows Mobile would be rebranded as the Windows Phones Classic, once Windows Phone 7 Series is released commercially to the markets at the end of 2010.

Reports are that Natasha Kwan, General Manager of Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, had quoted in a March 1 interview that "because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series, the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable".

The technology giant, however, has refused to give out any confirmations on the same.
