Part Time Working Mothers have Healthy Kids

A new Australian study enlightened the fact that mothers who work as part timers tend to have healthier children than the ones who are working either full time or are homemakers.

The study puts light on the fact that part time mothers are less likely to consume junk food and they watch less TV and have the least possibility of gaining weight or becoming obese.

The study which is named, "Do Working Mothers Raise Couch Potato Kids?" conducted personal interviews with mothers along with their children. The group measured the kid's height and weight at ages 4 to 5 and again measured the same after two years.

The Daily Telegraph quoted co-author and associate professor Jan Nicholson said, "When mothers work part-time, there's obviously something about the way the house is run, and the way parents are looking after their children that is protective".

About 4,500 pre-schoolers were analyzed and it was found that only those of them watch less TV who has mothers working as part timers as compared to the ones who have stay-at-home mothers and full-time working mums. Such kids consume fewer snacks and maintain good health.

The researchers said, "Although employment reduces the time parents spend at home, mothers go to considerable lengths to insulate time with their children. They reschedule activities, sleep less and allocate less time to personal care and leisure to ensure that time with children is protected".
