Bone care pills may help to cut cancer risk.

Scientists have revealed that women who took drugs namely diphosphonates, which is used to prevent the loss of bone mass, reduced their risk of breast cancer by nearly 40%. In United States, the researchers decided to analyze nearly 3,000 women aged 20 to 69 with breast cancer and without breast cancer. All the women were examined on whether they took diphosphonates or not.

Older were the most affected by the disease as their estrogen level drops. The results revealed that taking of diphosphonates helps in the reduction of the breast cancer. The women who used the medication for 2 years reduce the risk of breast cancer.

"These medications inhibit the growth of many cell types, and this large study suggests that the development of breast tumors may also be affected", said Study leader Dr Polly Newcomb, from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, Washington.
