Utter the phrase "I want to drop some weight" and people will hand us a long list of foods that should not be eaten, and most of these foods are laden with carbohydrates. Most major diets also advise us to cut out carbs from everyday eating. These diets might not have a problem with fat consumption, but everything which has carbs, right from rice to bread, has to go.
Well, maybe that's just not the path to take after all; at least that what a recent study has stressed. A low-fat diet, say researchers, is much better a diet of low carbohydrates in the long run.
So why do dieticians keep screaming about carbs? Simple, because a low-carb diet tends to give results sooner than a low-fat one. But researchers discovered that while it takes time for a low-fat diet to show its results, they are more permanent. During the study undertaken to prove this, the group which was on a low-carb diet not only dropped lesser weight as compared to the one on a low-fat diet, but also managed to put much of it back within 24 months.
The reason behind this seems to be simple - while it is easy to maintain a diet which is low in fat all throughout one's life, maintenance of a low-carb diet tends to become more difficult.
Also, body needs carbs to make energy, and therefore people who eat carbs, cut out fat and work out tend to achieve better results (you need energy to work out!).
When it comes to weight loss, following a program which is easy to maintain and keep up with is always the better choice. So cut the fats, eat some carbs and get exercising, results will be better and lasting.
