As all the dairy herds have reported to be free from Enzootic Bovine Leukosis, which is an occasional infectious viral disease of dairy cattle, all the exporters in Australia would enjoy better overseas sales.
"Every time Australia receives disease-free status, new markets open up around the world. This means one thing for Australian dairy farmers, more customers. This is another success story for the Australian dairy industry which is already exporting to South East Asia, Japan and the Middle East", said Federal Agriculture Minister Tony Burke.
The industry had started the control program in 1995. It is now said to have won a "provisional freedom". It has to perform consistently for the next 3 years to receive the "unconventional freedom" state.
Chairman of the Australia Dairy Industry Council and the National Program Advisory Group for EBL Eradication, Wes Judd expressed joy over the success of the dairy testing program. He concluded that the success ensures the good status of the health of Australian animals.
"The success of this program maintains Australia's reputation as a reliable exporter of quality dairy products and dairy cattle for breeding", he said.
Burke shared that the country has already exported its dairy products to South-East Asia, Japan and the Middle East.
