Hospital Starts Probe into Child Heart Surgery Deaths
Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital

A renowned hospital has reportedly started a probe into the deaths of four children who underwent heart operations there during the recent months.

Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital has also suspended children's heart surgery till the investigation has been completed. Presently, parents of as many as 26 children who were due to undergo surgeries at the Children's Hospital there are being contacted and informed of the development.

Those who require urgent treatment are being shifted to other venues.

"We have temporarily suspended the pediatric cardiac surgery service while we investigate concerns that have been raised. Our investigations are likely to include an external review of the deaths of some very sick children (four children) who underwent surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in the last three to four months", said a spokesperson for the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust.

Reports are that the death of four "very sick children" either happened during or after the surgery. Further details are yet to be released.

The case is being closely monitored by the Care Quality Commission, and those looking for more information can contact the hospital on 01865 741166.
