Gaye Philpott, the Palmerston North dietician, has said that endorsing of McDonald's meal does not end up bothering her, as WeightWatcher's points system does not seem to work anyways.
The reaction has come after it was yesterday announced that McDonald's New Zealand and WeightWatchers have joined hands in a partnership, under which, the Filet-O-Fish burger, Chicken McNuggets and a sweet chilli laced chicken wrap meal have been termed as healthy food options.
In order to help people drop the extra pounds, Weight Watchers uses a points-based system. The options offered by McDonald's are apparently worth 6.5 points each, but nutritionists and dietitians across the globe are much skeptical.
Mrs. Philpott shared that while she was aware that McDonald's had been trying to promote a healthier image, she would never support or recommend eating fast food.
"When people see WeightWatchers products they automatically think they are healthy options and now they will think McDonald's is too. It doesn't teach people properly about portion sizes or the sodium, sugar or other content information. WeightWatcher's points system doesn't really generate a healthy food choice", she said.
