Costs to Remain Significant Despite Global Warming Litigation

Questions have been raised about the conclusions of the IPCC report on global warming by the scientists working on the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

ExxonMobil and other oil and gas companies have been sued by the Alaskan Village of Kivalina, which alleged that the defendants caused harm to their village by contributing to global warming.

The suit was dismisses by the District Courts and the case is now on appeal to the Ninth Circuit.

It was stated that 80% of the Himalayan glaciers would vanish due to climate change and about one sixth of the world's population would be affected due to the melting of the glaciers.

Mark Frankel, Director of Scientific Freedom, Responsibility and Law at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, on reviewing the e-mails frequently cited by skeptics for the AP, did not find any evidence of falsification or fabrication of data.

"We don't know for sure if these tipping points are out there, or if they are, how soon we could cross them", said Michael Schlesinger, an Atmospheric Scientist at the University of Illinois.
