Lockheed Signed for a 10 Year Contract for Army Services

United States aircraft maker Lockheed Martin was offered a contract by the Government for 10 years to grant the New Zealand army some warehousing, maintenance and services regarding repairs. This contract is worth $NZ144 Million and it permits Lookheed to tie up with the Police as well, to provide them with maintenance services. The contract will be applicable from June. These services are expected to be provided for Unimog trucks, army's light vehicles LAV IIIs and Pinzgauer light operational vehicles LOVs.

It is still unknown whether the deal will have an effect on the civilian staff numbers regarding the job loss. The job cuts are a matter of concern because the army presently employs 7500 regular and reserve forces along with the civilian staff. Army also has defense force staff functional on multiple peacekeeping operations, United Nations missions and defense exercises with almost 500 positioned there.

Debra Palmer, Vice President of enterprise logistics solutions at Lockheed Martin's simulation, training and support business unit said, "Our goal is to ensure we provide the best possible supply service in the most cost-effective way".
