Various studies have come to the conclusion that by working under rotating shifts, you will increase the probability of wreaking havoc to your whole system, mostly your sleep and your bowel movements. There is also the standing risk of development of the irritable bowel syndrome.
The symptoms of this syndrome includes pain in the abdomen, constipation, bloating, diarrhea and also cramping. The interesting part is that the scientists have no idea about the cause of the syndrome and that people who work in shifts have often reported to have bowel movements that are altered and very similar to that of patients with irritable bowel syndrome.
The habits and shifts of nurses were observed, and the nurses who worked day shifts and night shifts had less risk of the syndrome when compared to the nurses who worked rotating shifts of day and night.
The findings seem to suggest that the schedules which change eating and sleeping habits through rotating shifts disrupt the normality and the rhythm of the intestinal tract which for its part increases the probability of developing IBS or irritable bowel syndrome.
