Microsoft has reported that since its new operating system Windows 7's launch in October last year, it has managed to sell 90 million copies of the same. Microsoft's Chief Financial officer claims that this sale has made the software the fastest selling OS in the PC industry till date. Formal introduction of the OS to the market took place on 22nd October, and the software has in-built support for touch-screen applications and with a reduction of disturbing security measures that existed in Vista.
This announcement was made by CFO Peter Klein at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference saying, ""We see continuing momentum in Windows 7 to date. We've now sold 90 million copies, which is just terrific momentum".
But it is being believed that the replacement of XP might take time, because with the introduction of Vista which was not much appreciated, the users have been switching back to XP.
Klein added, "The interest has been very high, and we're now having conversations with the majority of our enterprise customers who are making plans to deploy Windows 7. It's not precisely certain when that will happen and how fast it will happen, but as we've been saying constantly for the last several quarters, we expect it to happen this calendar year and go into the next calendar year, and that will be a really good thing".
