British Airways Augments 1,000 Volunteers to Rule Out Cabin Crew Strikes
British Airways

British Airways has raised 1,000 volunteers to work as cabin crew in aid to cover up the possibility of a strike.

The airline is determined not to cancel or postpone flights and will take on 23 planes with a full fledged team to accommodate the traveling schedules.

According to BA Chief Executive, Willie Walsh, the airline is likely to have 1,000 supplementary cabin crew who will take care of all the travel preparations and hopefully no loss will be caused as threatened by the strike.

Total passengers carried by BA during this year till date was 29.59 million, 3% down from 30.49 million in the same period last year.

During the economic crisis, revenue of BA went down by 13% for the nine months that ended December 31, 2009.

Meanwhile, striking a deal with U. S. based biofuel company Solena Group, British Airways will start purchasing all the jet fuel that Solena could make from a plant that is likely to be located in London and will start operating from
2014.

The plant aims to convert 500,000 tonnes of waste yearly into 16 million gallons of green jet fuel that the two companies estimated would lower greenhouse gas production compared with burning normal jet fuel.

A British Airways spokesman refused to comment on the cost of the deal. He said that by 2050, British Airways intends to get 10% of all its jet fuel from this waste-to-energy process.

News from the Unite union reveals that the new strike will occur in the next few weeks.

According to law, the unions must provide at least a week's notice to the airline.

This is likely to become a problem for the passengers who have made their reservations with British Airways. They might face interruption or postponement in their flights if the strike takes place.
