YouTube has managed to make the many millions of videos it hosts more accessible to the deaf and those who are hard of hearing, by adding automatic captions on them.
The Google-owned firm, excited about the new development, shared that this use of speed recognition technology is most likely the biggest online experiment of its type. The captions were previously available on only a small amount of content.
"A core part of YouTube's DNA is access to content", said YouTube's Product Manager Hunter Walk.
As has been shared by the company, by opening all the content it has to offer to those who have not been able to access it till now, it is looking to democratize information and "help foster greater collaboration and understanding".
To begin with, the feature will be available only for videos which are in English, but over the coming months, other languages would be included.
