Toxins in Air, Prince George Residents Kept in Dark

According to CBC News, high levels of harmful chemicals were found in the air samples of Prince George community more than 18 months back, but residents were not informed of this.

It is reported that in some regions formaldehyde was 20 times higher than normal.

Formaldehyde leads to allergies, asthma, and even cancer if concentration is high, reports Health Canada.

One of the Prince George tests was taken in Fort George Park, which is a popular playground and water park adjacent to a children's science museum and daycare. Around 1,200 micrograms of formaldehyde per cubic meter was found in the sample test in one hour duration.

The denizens are extremely frustrated being kept in dark about this whole thing.

Even after detecting the toxins in the air for about 18 months, the Government did not do anything to eliminate those chemicals.

Liberal MLA Shirley Bond, representing Prince George-Valemount, said, "I can understand the concern that residents expressed, and we've moved forward and we are going to have the tests re-done", she said.

It is estimated that $6,000 and $12,000 will be spent on the re-testing in the area.
