According to reports, South Warwickshire Hospital has been given foundation trust status by Healthcare regulator, Monitor. This means that the hospital is now free from direct Government control.
The trust is capable of taking its own decisions on how it desires to expand its services. It is now a public interest company and can borrow money and have its own profits that should be spent on patient care. And it should meet national care standards policed by Monitor.
To acquire this status, Warwick had shown sufficient beds that met national standards.
Chief Executive Glen Burley said that there will be no overnight changes.
He says that earlier, he was answerable to the Department of Health, but now he is accountable to only few local people. The patients can directly approach the authority if they want any kind of improvement.
"Rather than being driven by national targets and strategies we will be focused on what's important for people in south Warwickshire", said Burley.
Hospital aims to expand its roots in the local community.
