Qantas Link will be adding more flights between Mackay and Brisbane, as the mining industry is flourishing by leaps and bounds.
Tiger Airlines also announced that they will continue with their Mackay to Melbourne route, while Virgin Blue will upgrade the size of the aircraft which is servicing Mackay.
This is done in order to fulfill the increasing demand.
A Spokeswoman from Qantas Link, Elsa Dalessio says, "Mackay is going through significant growth because of the resource industry boom... and the demand for both the Qantaslink and Jetstar services has been extremely high between Mackay and Brisbane... the Qantas group has determined that there's a need for more capacity for both airlines".
Increasing air-traffic is a good way to solve the problem. Moreover, it is a good move for Mackay Airport which was awaiting an upgrade towards the end of the year.
Terry Simpson, from the Mackay Airport says, "We are looking at probably an additional 100,000 seats in and out of Mackay say from May over a twelve month period. When airlines put this capacity into the market here we've got to make sure: one, we can handle it, two, we make sure that everyone coming into Mackay enjoys the experience, wants to come back and the fares, this is up to the airlines of course, are attractive for people to do that flight".
