The retail sector had been the hardest hit during the global recession, with people being very cautious about shopping and spending money. Even the Christmas season last year had been luke warm, albeit a little better than the
2008 holiday season.
During the month of February, British retail sales volumes managed to rise much faster than expected and at their quickest pace in as many as three long years. The successful figures have come as a relief to the suffering retailers, especially with the heavy fears created by many big names almost disappearing from the market.
One good thing is that the figures have been positive despite the increase in VAT and the unusually chilly and unfavorable weather.
With the retail sector bouncing back, things have been looking up for other economic sectors as well, and the data on the whole seems to be better than before.
Although the analysts are not expecting March sales to match those of February, things certainly do seem to be turning around for the better.
