Submissions For R18+ Rating Reach 55,000 Mark

A recent report has revealed that the Federal Government has received around 55,000 submissions on the issue of introducing R18+ rating for video games.

The authorities have shared that this is the biggest number of submissions reported in Australia ever.

The consultation kicked off on 14 December 2009 and concluded on 28th February 2010.

The decisions over the issue are awaited as the Federal Attorney-General's Department will evaluate on the basis of submissions.

"The submissions received in this consultation process will assist the Commonwealth and other censorship ministers' consideration about whether an adult classification for computer games should be introduced", Home Affairs Minister, Brendan Connor, said in a statement.

"It is important to note that changes to the National Classification Code require unanimous agreement between the Commonwealth, states and territories", he added.

The issue has initiated heated arguments among the politicians and the public.

There are concerns rising among the parents over the upgradation of violent games that may prove harmful for the children.

Mr. Atkinson, the State Attorney-General is opposing the introduction of the adult rating in video games, very strongly.
